Yesterday it was official

We knew in the early years this young boy had a zest for drama, travel, and fun. He wanted to be on stage. At the young age of five, he tugged on my arm and said, “Dad, I want a piano.” During his young lad piano recitals, he was shy but loved the applause. Suddenly he was playing bass guitar in a garage band. Then a Honda scooter joined our garage collection.

During his undergrad days at App State in NC, he performed on stage in plays. He won a job in the National Theater in Washington, DC. After chasing his theatre dreams he called me one day to inform us that he was accepted at Ohio State for their MBA program. He told me he wanted an MBA, “Like my Dad.”

During Scott’s early work in marketing with a global firm named FITCH, he was selected for the international offer for a 3-month immersion. He chose Singapore over London. The FITCH Singapore folks asked him to join. He sold his home in Ohio and off he went to Singapore.

Scott enjoyed riding his bicycle in Sing. He never did own a car during his 5-year stint in Singapore.

He met Simon there and they decided to marry. The wedding in Oahu was perfect. Yesterday, Scott became an official citizen of Australia. He is registered to vote too.

They own 2 homes, one in Docklands, Melbourne, AU, and one in Rushworth, an old gold rush town.

Champagne all around after the official presentations. Scott on the left, then Simon, then Pope Jon (we met at the wedding) and his sidekick Michael.

Moral of the story: If your son wants to be on stage, encourage him.
